Parco dei Sesi x Terra Nera
2021-2022.
Juliette Somnolet has been invited by the Parco dei Sesi, a hotel on the archaeological site of the island of Pantelleria, and the A'Nica gallery to take up a 4-month artistic residency.
The aim of this residency is to become a voluntary hermit, in reaction to a world that has forced her to cloister herself. She combines experimentation and exploration of the surrounding landscape. In a topographical and archaeological process, she expresses her impulses in relation to the territory and its wild nature, giving rise to work on modular structures imitating the island's shaggy landscape.
Three works emerged from this island journey, each inspired by a different part of the island: the agave snake, the vexed caper trees and the solidified viscous lava.
For the first time during this residency, the artist expressed her desire to minimise her footprint as much as possible.
