Droit du Sol x Archives nationales x Nuit Blanche Paris '24
Juliette Somnolet invites you to walk through her installation droit du Sol, to tread and break up crunchy raw ceramic leaves and fallen trees, rooted anew with clay prosthetics.
We are immersed in an artificial landscape of autumn in summer, highlighting man’s hostage-taking of Nature. During the night, under your footsteps, this work made of earth will return to dust. Marked duality between participating in the breakage and being active in the reparations. Offering intimacy with our dirt, questioning the law and its contradictions, this installation is committed to our planet and the beings that roam it.
2 tonnes of elements, 1,500 kg of wild clay, rainwater. 7,000 leaves, 10 tree prosthetics, collected within a 2-hour radius of the centre of Paris.
6 months of work and 6 hours of life.
After Nuit Blanche, the material becomes a future resource, a countermeasure to our futility.
